Smoltz possibly out for the season (LINK)
There is a chance that John Smoltz may have thrown his last pitch. He made his first start after coming off the DL on Monday and blew the opportunity to get his first save in four years. He remained positive after allowing two earned runs against the Marlins, but when he woke up Tuesday morning, the pain in his shoulder got worse. That's when he realized the reality of his situation. At age 41,his body just might have had enough."I can't compete against my body anymore," Smoltz said on Wednesday during a news conference at Turner Field."I said I would retire if the desire was gone" he said."I'm not there yet. I'm not there emotionally. Physically, [that's] still to be determined."
Smoltz was a member of the Atlanta Braves team that had a pitching staff that included Greg Maddux,Tom Glavine, and Steve Avery. They won a World Championship in 1995.
Pedro Martinez got his first win of the season last night as the Mets beat the Giants 9-6.Martinez even hit a pair of singles and drove in a run. His final pitching line: six innings, seven hits, three runs, three walks and three strikeouts on 109 pitches. The Mets and Giants are in the bottom of the third with the Mets on top 5-1 behind the pitching of John Maine.
The Brewers are hot.Even though there is nothing worse then hot beer, the team has swept the Arizona D-backs.This is the Brewers second consecutive three game sweep.Corey Hart had an inside-the-park homerun as the Brew-Crew smashed the snakes 10-1.
Gabe Kapler started it all with an RBI single in the first inning. He had four hits, a career high, as every Brewer had a hit except for catcher Jason Kendall.
I always wondered what happed to Gabe Kapler, or was that Gabriel Kaplan?
Freddie Boom-Boom Washington and Vinnie Barbarino weren't in the lineup.
