May 16th 2008 16:38
Johan Santana looks to continue his evil ways against Major League hitters as he starts tonight against the Yankees, as Major League Baseball starts interleague play this weekend.Santana is 4-2 on the year with a 3.10 ERA and 52 strikeouts. The Yanks will have Darrell Rasner on the mound.Rasner is 2-0,with a 3.00 ERA with 5 strikeouts.
Santana, the ace of the Mets pitching staff had shunned the New York media as he refused interview requests, yet he spoke with a Venezuelan newspaper about how exciting it is to pitch in Yankee Stadium.

Pedro martinez threw a four inning 55 pitch simulated game in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday.
According to Mets GM Omar Minaya, the pitcher had actually fielded a bunt and ran to cover first base as he is trying to recover from a strained left hamstring.Martinez hasn't pitched in a minor league game but is likely to pitch one more simulated game where he will try to increase to 75 to 80 pitches before moving on to a rehab game with single A St.Lucie.
If all goes well,Martinez could return no sooner than May 29- June 1 at Shea against the Dodgers.

Also in Metland,Moises Alou is hitting .364 in his first eight games since coming off the DL,and has reached base in each of those games and currently has a seven-game hitting streak.Alou, who has spent his entire 19 seasons in the National league, will make his first appearance in Yankee Stadium this weekend.Asked about playing there this weekend,he said ,"I didn't want to hang it up before I played one game there",i am thankful to get the chance to play there before they tear it down.
His father,Felipe Alou wore Yankee pinstripes from 1971-1973,as well as his uncle,Matty Alou for one season as Felipe's teammate.Moises rejected a completed deadline trade from Houston to the Yanks in 2000,and then chose the Cubs over the Pride as a free agent in 2001.

Elsewhere around baseball: The Arizona Diamond back's Brandon Webb improved his record to 9-0,as the Snakes beat the Rocks 8 to 5 Thursday night. The win brings Arizona's record to 26-15,4.5 games ahead of the Dodgers in the NL West.
Webb is the first pitcher since Andy Hawkins to win his first nine starts of the season.Hawkins went on to a 10-0 start in 1985 with the Padres.

The weekend should be full of excitement with some great interleague matchups as the Dodgers and Angels start the freeway series, while the Cubs and White Sox square off in the battle of Chicago. So there should be all kinds of baseball to talk about and write about!
What a great time of year!
