Phillies Prosepect Trevor May is the future of the pitching rotation.
Trevor May a prospect in the Phillies minor league system is looking to be on a rocket ship to the pros. With really a slim chance of making it to the big leagues this season look for May to be in the show sometime next year.
The Phillies are weak in the pitching category in the minors. Their top prospect is Phillippe Aumont who will start the year probably in double A. May should start in Single A.
May knows what is expected of him. "There are a certain level of expectations," May said recently. "You get bumped up [after Drabek left the organization]. Even though I haven't pitched in the offseason, more is expected of me. It's kind of exciting to me, because as a person I personally like to set high goals and expectations for myself. Having other people joining in on those expectations gives you more determination to get it done. I knew Kyle. He was a great guy, but it's exciting to be held in high regards in the organization. I hope to fulfill those expectations."
The Phillies selected May in the fourth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. He went 1-1 with a 3.75 ERA in five appearances for the Gulf Coast League Phillies in 2008, and he opened '09 in extended spring camp. He impressed the Phillies so much that he skipped short-season Class A Williamsport for Class A Lakewood.
"He responded very well," Phillies assistant general manager Chuck LaMar said. "He's a big strong kid with a good arm."
May, 20, went 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA in 15 starts at Lakewood. He struck out 95 batters in 77 1/3 innings.
So don’t look for May this year but Phillies be looking out for him in the next couple of years.
