Philly Fish Fry lands them in first
The Philadelphia Phillies are now on top of the NL East by beating the Marlins 12-3 Friday night at Citizens Bank Park. Chase Utley and Chris Coste had homeruns.
The Phil’s offense has been on fire during their homestand, they lit the Rockies for 42 runs in three games and now scoring 12 runs against the Marlins, formerly atop the NL East. Philadelphia has hit .324 as a team in taking the first four games of its 10-game homestand.
And how ‘bout them Cubbies who overcame an eight-run deficit to beat the Rockies, 10-9, for their fifth straight win on Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field. At one point, they were down 9-1. Mark DeRosa hit a two-run homer as part of a six-run seventh. It was the largest come-from-behind win for the team since June 22, 1999, also against The Rockies when the Cubs also faced a 9-1 hole. They went on to win, 13-12. 'Oh, it's going to be one of these games,'" DeRosa said, alluding to an 8-0 lead the Rockies built up in the first 3 1/2 innings. "The way the wind was blowing [15 miles per hour out to center], you knew it was just a couple fly balls and we were back in the game." Chicago got some HR support from Kosuke Fukudome, Jim Edmonds and Henry Blanco.
The Mets ended their 3-game winning streak as Aaron Heilman was in a good position to help the Mets win the game but blew it. And boy did he hear it from the Shea Stadium faithful. Even manager Willie Randolph was given a round of loud boos as he came to take Heilman out of the game.
He should have stayed in the dugout and sent pitching coach Rick Peterson out there. There hasn’t been all that much to cheer about in Queens these days except a 3-game winning streak. The Mets need help.Maybe one last visit by the Pope before they tear down Shea?
The division races are starting to heat up.Even though it is the end of May and there still is alot more baseball to be played. So get out and see a game this weekend. And I hope your teams do well.
