NYU student nailed at the plate

nailed at the plate

Probably just about anyone that has been to a sporting event has given a quick thought about running out onto the field.Seems as though you would hear more about some one doing that sort of thing years ago, especially when a game was televised. The networks got smart and decided not to give these people any air time, because it could encourage more people to do it. I am sure William Lopez recieved a fine education at NYU,and he becomes yet another "educated" person to make their mark out in the great big world.

But there was his picture,on the front page of the New York Daily News.He even had a complete page written about him, complete with pictures of him running toward home plate, and getting tackled by stadium security,to a few pics from his My Space page.I guess that stuff sells newspapers, heck,I even bought it.
William Lopez graduated from NYU,and got to celebrate by attending a game at Yankee Stadium. Most fans could only dream about having 3rd row seats on the first base side, and now the hollowed ground has added another name to the greats that have been on that field.Ruth,Gehrig,Mantle,and. ........... Lopez. This fine young scholar has a Bachelor of fine arts degree.Maybe it should be changed to a Bachelor of not-so-fine-arts and not-so-fine taste. They should put a plaque up in monument park as well, but seeing that Lopez decided to take his pants off while running out onto the field, maybe not.(Although he was wearing a graduation gown,he said he was going to go with out anything but was afraid that he would be arrested for indecent exposure.) I am guessing this is where his educated mind kicked in with rationalization.

I am not trying to to play the self righteous card on this subject, because I have done some real whacky stuff in my day. Maybe it could have been done with a bit of class,at least keep your pants on for pete's sake! But this just seems to be so distasteful and disrespectful to the game of baseball.Kind of like the way Rosanne sang the National Anthem years ago.
The article mentioned that Michael Strahan was at the NYU graduation and said a few words.I couldn't help but think about him chasing Lopez down and tackling him instead of the security guards. Now THAT would have been a funny thing to see!
