My love for the University of Tennessee Volunteers

Football in the south is more of a religion than a sport. As a child growing up, I used to think that the reason most people did not work on weekends was so that they could watch their favorite football team play. This team for me has always been the University of Tennessee Volunteers.
The University of Tennessee is based in Knoxville, Tennessee. This town of 150,000 comes to life every weekend for a home game when they fill their stadium with over 100,000 screaming fans. It is a weekly celebration like no other as fans can take cars or boats to the game and tailgate in the parking lots or on the docks. Unique features inside Neyland Stadium like their checkerboard endzone and the Pride of the Southland Band also add to the atmosphere. Historic coaches and players such as General Neyland
, Peyton Manning, Willie Gault, Jamal Lewis, and others, allow Tennessee fans to witness some of the best athletes in the world on stage. With several National Championships and the winner of the the first ever BCS Championship, the Vols are always ready to compete. Even if I have to turn on my cheap satellite tv to watch some of the away games, I know that my love affair with Tennessee football will never end.
