Mets limp home after rough road trip
The New York Mets started their road trip last Friday with a stop at Yankee Stadium, where they won two straight before heading to Atlanta where they lost four in a row then hobbled into Colorado where they finally won the first game of a three game series, only to lose two in a row again to the Rockies.
They come home a bit weary from the wear and tear of a trip that saw them go 3-6.The Mets are now 23-25 on the year,5.5 games behind the first place Florida Marilns that happen to be in town for a three game series that starts tonight.Florida is 11-8 on the road this year.
This series could be vital to the Mets chances of staying in the thick of things. If they dont play well, they could find themselves sliding further down to a point where they may not be able to recover. At least they wont give false hope to their fans like they did last year by falling apart at the end of the season. This year it seems they are cutting to the chase.
The Mets are starting the 2-5 Mike Pelfrey against Florida's Ricky Nolasco.
On a lighter note, The Baltimore Orioles beat the Yankees 6-1.The win puts the O's at .500 for the year and drops the Yankees into last place in the American League East.
The Blue Jays took care of the Royals 7-3.The loss drops the Royals to 21-30.(maybe they will be mathematically eliminated by the All-Star break)
In the National League:
The red hot Atlanta Braves beat Arizona 7-3. That win puts the Braves just two games behind the Marlins in the East.
The Brewers beat the Nationals in a nail-biter 4-3, while the Cubs beat the Dodgers 3-1.
The Cubbies are 3 percentage points ahead of the Cardinals in the Central.
So that's the story around the Majors.I would like to take this opportunity and thank all the veterans and active soldiers who have served our country on this Memorial Day.
