Another one bites the dust!
O.K. Who had John McLaren in the "Baseball is good axed managers" pool? Maybe we should call it the dead pool. Either way, the Mariners skipper went down, joining Willie Randolph in the unemployment line. Three days after they fired general manager Bill Bavasi — and just before the worst team in the major leagues left on its road trip.
Who do you think is going to be next? Feel free to comment and make your vote.
And It seems that this years pattern of disgruntled managers and general managers is contagious. The most recent is Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi, who vented his anger on a Toronto radio show. A caller had asked him about the Jays aquiring Adam Dunn from the Cincinnati Reds, and J.P. spewed out this: "Let me ask you something. What do you know about Adam Dunn?" Ricciardi said to the caller. "He's a lifetime .230, .240 hitter that strikes out a ton and hits home runs.
"Do you know that the guy really doesn't like baseball all that much?" Ricciardi continued. "Do you know the guy doesn't have a passion to play the game that much? How much do you know about the player? There's a reason why you're attracted to some players and there's a reason why you're not attracted to some players. I don't think you'd be very happy if we brought Adam Dunn here." SHEESH!
[B]This is what Dunn had to say about the comments: "It [ticks] me off, to be honest with you," Dunn said. "He doesn't even know me. If he knew me, fine, say what you want. This guy doesn't know anything about me, other than what he sees on whatever 'SportsCenter' they have up there. That's it.'.
You tell em! By the way? What DO they have up there in Toronto? Do they even have ESPN?
So there is lots of trash talking and gossip going on around the league. If this all keeps up, I might be forced to start a blog on General Hospital!
Like sands through the hour glass, so are the days of our lives.
