Lester No-Hits Royals
Jon Lester was a Royal pain to the Kansas City Royals in the Boston Red Sox 7-0 victory Monday night .Lester only walked two batters, Billy Butler in the 2nd inning, and then Esteban German to start off the ninth.he struck out nine in his first complete game of his career.
His battery mate,Jason Varitek, who has now caught a record 4 no-hitters, lifted Lester into the air after the final out.Lester was then met by Boston Manager Terry Francona who gave him a big hug.The Fenway Park fans were on their feet yelling and screaming and camera's flashing as Lester struck out Alberto Callaspo.
The song "Tessie",the Red Sox victory anthem blasted over Fenways speakers as the team mobbed their pitcher.
It is a great comeback for Lester, who missed the end of the 2006 season after he was diagnosed with a rare form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He was the winning pitcher in game four of last years World Series against Colorado, just less than a year after chemotherapy cured his cancer.
It is the Red Sox 2nd no-hitter since Clay Buchholz blanked the Baltimore Orioles in just his second Major League start last September.
The last pitcher to throw a no-no against the Royals was Nolan Ryan.
