Lee beats Yanks for his sixth win
It was a great pitching match up at the Stadium last night.
The Yankees started 5-0 Chien-Ming Wang against the Indians 5-0 Cliff Lee.
Cleveland beat the Yankees 3-0 as Lee pitched a gem as he went seven innings while scattering 7 hits keeping his ERA at an incredible 0.81.So far this year, Lee has worked
44 1/3 innings, given up just four earned runs on 25 hits, walked just two batters and struck out 39. Those numbers are pretty staggering.
They are even better than the start that Bob Gibson had 40 years prior. That year, Gibson had started off with a 3-1 record with a 1.31 ERA, with eight earned runs on 35 hits,12 walks and 36 strikeouts in 55 innings pitched. That was the year that Gibson won the National League MVP.
The win put Cleveland at 16-17 on the year, 1 ½ games behind the Twins in the AL Central, while the loss set the Yankees back at 17-18, 4 1/2 games behind Boston and a game behind Tampa bay in the AL East.
Elsewhere around the league, Oakland beat Baltimore 6-5 in 10 innings.
The Tigers trimmed the Red Sox 10-9
Toronto clipped Tampa bay 6-2
The Royals over the Angels 9-4
The twins smashed the White Sox 13-1
Texas shut out the Mariners 2-0
In the National League,
It was the Reds 9 and the Cubs 0
The Mets beat the Dodgers 12-1 ( FINALLY)
The Braves over the Padres 5-2
The Pirates slipped by the Giants 3-1
The Marlins beat the Brewers 6-2 to remain on top in the NL East
Houston 4 Washington 3
Colorado over the Cards 4-3
Philly 5 D-backs 4
So that’s what happened. That’s all I gotta say, just keep them cards and letters coming!!!
