The Dice-Man Cometh
Just when the Kansas City Royals thought it was safe to go back to Boston, they got swept by the Bosox as the Dice -Man got his 8th win as the Boston Red Sox took the four game series in an 11- 8 win at Fenway Park on Thursday afternoon. The Sox,led by grand slams by J.D. Drew and Mike Lowell cranked out 14 hits to help Daisuke Matsuzaka improve to 8-0 on the season with a 2.40 ERA
Although the Dice-Man got the win,he struggled with his command as he has on and off so far this year.Giving up six hits and six walks while striking out seven he was also charged with two passed balls. He allowed three runs.
"He wasn't in command of all his pitches. He ran deep counts and got his pitch count up," said Royals manager Trey Hillman. "But he's still pretty good, even when he's not commanding the zone." It's mighty impressive how he has given up so many walks and even though he has been wild, the offense always steps up.You cant go wrong when you get the support he got from Lowell and Drew
The loss dropped K.C. to 21-26, 5.5 games behind the White Sox in the American League Central.
Elsewhere around the leagues, the Yankees beat the Orioles 2-1 on a Robinson Cano walk-off homerun in a game that saw manager Joe Girardi get ejected. The Yankees first year manager was tossed after arguing a Jason Giambi strikeout.Girardi may be feeling the frustration of being in last place,7.5 games behind Boston.
Mets manager Wille Randolph must be feeling the same way after his teams loss to the Braves.Although Randolph didn't get ejected,he must have felt dejected as Atlanta completed a four game sweep of the sliding Mets. This was the first time that the Braves swept the Mets since 2003.Geez.Has it been that long already?Seems just like yesterday
