Get your Soto runnin'
The Chicago Cubs are really starting to look like a team to be reckoned with .They are playing some exciting baseball and are currently enjoying sitting on top of their division. They are also tied with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for the best record in baseball at 31-21.
One of the reasons why the Cubbies have been so good is rookie catcher Geovany Soto. .
The 25 year-old is on his way to possibly becoming the first ever rookie catcher to start the All-Star game.He has 343,427 votes so far.Soto was also the National League Rookie of the Month in April after batting .341 with five homers and 20 RBIs, that leads all National League catchers. He was called up last September and it looks like he is here to stay.
Then of course there is Kosuke Fukudome(Same to you, buddy!).Now if you aren't careful how you pronounce his name, you just might offend someone.
Fukudome, who trails his teammate, outfielder voting leader Alphonso Soriano by roughly 27,000 votes,is like Soto,a rookie with a shot at a rare accomplishment. There hasn't been a rookie outfielder in the starting lineup for the NL All-Star team since Philadelphia's Richie Ashburn in 1948.
HEY! That isn't Kosuke Fukudome, and I'm pretty sure it aint Richie Ashburn either.Sorry about that.
The team is really playing well for manager Lou Pinella. But it is kinda funny how Pinella's old team, Tampa Bay happens to be in first place as well with an identical record.
They are at home tonight against the Dodgers. They will be starting Carlos Zambrano, who is
7-1 on the year with a 2.47 ERA,while the Dodgers are throwing Derek Lowe, who is 2-5 with a 5.03 ERA.
