Clemens Denies Affair With 15 Year Old
I was fighting with myself as to whether I wanted this story to go on a blog named baseball is good. I went back and forth as to whether I should write just about the game or if there should be controversy.
I always wonder how the older players would have done in this modern age of media. I'm sure there were lots of things those guys did that never made it into the news, for one reason or another. Maybe it was because there wasn't that much emphasis put on finding out the lastest dirt on a player back then.Although there has probably been gossip since the days of the cave men, ( that's how they came up with the idea for all those Geico commercials) It seems as though most of the players after having hall of fame careers, just galloped off into the sunset, maybe you would see them pop up here and there in commercials, or maybe the oldtimers day game, but for the most part,it seems as though they were able to maintain that squeaky clean image, even if they weren't in fact, squeaky clean and were human and had flaws just like the rest of us.
Only thing is, make one wrong move, and 354 wins, 7 Cy Young awards and a few world championships takes a back seat. But for Roger Clemens, he's got two bad moves: Suspected and denied use of steroids, and now this.
According to the Daily News, Roger Clemens had a decade long relationship with country star Mindy McCready that began when she was 15 years old and just an aspiring singer.
It also linked the pitcher to Paulette Dean Daly, a former wife of champion golfer John Daly.
"Even though these articles contain many false accusations and mistakes, I need to say that I have made mistakes in my personal life for which I am sorry," Clemens said in a statement issued by spokesman Patrick Dorton. "I have apologized to my family and apologize to my fans. Like everyone, I have flaws. I have sometimes made choices which have not been right." This apology first appeared in The Houston Chronicle.
Clemens, has also repeatedly denied the use of steroids and human growth hormones.
Clemens said" I have already made it clear that I did not use them".
Poor Roger just can't seem to catch a break these days.First the steroid issue, and now this.
Even his attorney, Rusty Hardin said "He's getting pummeled,I've never seen somebody get beat up like this. In some ways, I think we're on uncharted ground."
Although there has been a defamation suit against Clemen's former trainer Brian Mcnamee on the steroid use, Clemens still hasn't decided to drop the suit.
After being such a dominating force thoughout his baseball career, he is still making an impact. Not the kind he would like, especially for his family and not to mention the fans.
Over the years, I was fortunate to see him pitch numerous times, the latest was last July at Yankee Stadium against the Angels,It was oldtimers day.He pitched a good game, lasted six or seven innings or so,didn't get the decision in a 2-1 loss, but he made a sparkling defensive play by coming off the mound on a squiggler from Chone Figgins, and out running him to first base for the out.A wonderful display of his athletic ability.
That's what I remember about Clemens. Even though I wasn't a big fan of his, only because he was never on a team I liked. But even following his career from the start, the memories are all just like that hot July afternoon at the stadium this past summer.Great memories.Ones that I will never forget. So baseball is good.
